Why warmth helps
Warm muscles soften faster, so a therapist can work more deeply without it feeling harsh. Warmth also feels deeply comforting, which is why these massages are a favourite in the cooler months and for guests who carry a lot of tension.
Lava Stone
Smooth basalt stones, heated and glided along the body, then rested on tight spots. Medium pressure, very soothing. Tell your therapist straight away if a stone feels too hot.
Bamboo Flow
Warm bamboo canes rolled along the muscles like a rolling pin: firm, even and rhythmic. A good choice if you like deep pressure but not fingertips.
Herbal Poultice
Cloth pouches of herbs, warmed and pressed along the body in rhythm, a tradition from Thai and Ayurvedic massage. Earthy, aromatic and deeply relaxing.
Which to choose
- To melt away tension slowly: Lava Stone.
- For firm pressure and stiff backs: Bamboo Flow.
